Return & Refund Policy
The Puppy Yard
At The Puppy Yard, we understand that welcoming a puppy into your home is a significant commitment. Our goal is to help every customer make an informed decision and ensure that each puppy is placed in a suitable, loving environment.
Because puppies are living animals rather than ordinary retail products, purchases require special consideration. This policy explains how we handle deposits, cancellations, refunds, and concerns following a puppy purchase.
Important: The terms below are a proposed template. Before publishing, confirm your deposit rules, refund terms, and available remedies. Nothing in this policy limits rights that cannot legally be waived, including any applicable rights under state or federal animal-sale and consumer-protection laws.
1. Choosing Your Puppy
We encourage prospective puppy parents to ask questions and carefully consider their decision before reserving or purchasing a puppy.
Before completing a purchase, customers should review the available information about the puppy, including its breed, age, health records, care requirements, and any other relevant details provided by The Puppy Yard.
Our team is available to help answer questions about our French Bulldogs, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers so that customers can make informed decisions.
2. Puppy Deposits and Reservations
A deposit may be required to reserve a puppy, depending on the arrangements agreed upon with the customer.
Before accepting a deposit, we will communicate the applicable amount, payment terms, reservation conditions, and cancellation policy.
Deposit Refunds
The refundability of a deposit will depend on the written terms agreed upon before payment and applicable law.
Our final policy should clearly explain:
- Whether deposits are refundable or nonrefundable.
- The circumstances in which a deposit may be returned.
- What happens if The Puppy Yard cannot complete the agreed-upon sale.
- How cancellations must be submitted.
- Any applicable refund deadlines.
Any deposit described as nonrefundable remains subject to applicable laws and any circumstances in which a refund is legally required.
Customers should review the reservation terms carefully before submitting a deposit.
3. Customer Cancellations
We understand that circumstances can change and that a customer may need to cancel a reservation.
If you wish to cancel, please contact The Puppy Yard as soon as possible.
Your eligibility for a deposit refund or other reimbursement will depend on the written reservation agreement, the circumstances of the cancellation, and applicable law.
We will review cancellation requests individually and communicate the applicable terms.
4. Cancellations by The Puppy Yard
In some circumstances, we may be unable to complete a sale as originally planned.
For example, a puppy may develop a health concern that makes postponing its placement necessary, or other circumstances may prevent us from fulfilling the agreed-upon arrangement.
If The Puppy Yard cancels a sale, we will notify the customer and explain the available options.
Where a refund is required by our agreement or applicable law, we will provide it in accordance with the relevant requirements.
We will communicate any alternative arrangements before proceeding with them.
5. Health Concerns After Purchase
We encourage all customers to arrange a veterinary examination shortly after bringing their puppy home.
If a veterinarian identifies a potentially serious health concern, please contact The Puppy Yard promptly and provide relevant veterinary documentation.
Depending on the circumstances, the concern may be reviewed under our Health Guarantee.
Any available refund, reimbursement, or other remedy will depend on the applicable guarantee, the purchase agreement, and relevant legal requirements.
Please prioritize your puppy’s health and seek necessary veterinary treatment immediately. Do not delay care while waiting for a response from us.
6. Health Guarantee Claims
Health-related claims will be reviewed according to the written Health Guarantee provided for the puppy.
Customers may be asked to provide:
- The puppy’s name and purchase date.
- Veterinary examination records.
- A written diagnosis, where available.
- Relevant diagnostic results.
- Receipts for eligible expenses, if reimbursement is available under the guarantee.
We may request additional information reasonably necessary to assess a claim.
Any claim deadlines, coverage limits, exclusions, and available remedies will be governed by the applicable written guarantee and applicable law.
Nothing in this policy removes rights or remedies that customers are entitled to under applicable law.
7. Returns and Rehoming
We recognize that unexpected circumstances can sometimes make it difficult for a family to continue caring for a puppy.
If you can no longer care for your puppy, please contact The Puppy Yard to discuss the situation.
We encourage responsible, safe decisions that protect the puppy’s welfare.
Depending on the circumstances, we may discuss possible rehoming assistance or other arrangements, subject to our capacity and the terms of the purchase agreement.
Please contact us before making arrangements to transfer your puppy to another owner if your purchase agreement contains rehoming or transfer requirements.
Returning a puppy does not automatically entitle a customer to a refund. Any return arrangement, refund, or other remedy will be determined by the written agreement and applicable law.
We will not ask customers to delay urgent veterinary care or place a puppy in an unsafe situation while an arrangement is being discussed.
8. Refund Processing
Where a refund is approved or legally required, it will generally be issued using the original payment method when reasonably possible.
If the original payment method is unavailable, we may contact the customer to arrange an appropriate alternative, subject to applicable law.
The time required for a refund to appear in a customer’s account may depend on the payment provider or financial institution.
We will communicate any relevant refund arrangements and applicable timelines.
9. Nonrefundable Situations
Depending on the agreed purchase terms and applicable law, certain circumstances may not qualify for a refund.
These may include:
- A customer changing their mind after completing a purchase, where no applicable cancellation or refund right exists.
- A customer deciding that the puppy’s normal characteristics or care requirements do not match their preferences, where no applicable remedy is available.
- A cancellation covered by a clearly disclosed, legally enforceable deposit policy.
These examples are not intended to exclude any refund, cancellation right, warranty remedy, or other protection required by law.
10. How to Request a Refund
To submit a cancellation request, refund inquiry, or health-related claim, please contact our team.
Include the following information where relevant:
- Your full name.
- Your contact information.
- The puppy’s name and breed.
- The purchase or reservation date.
- Your receipt or transaction reference.
- A description of your request.
- Supporting documentation, where applicable.
Please avoid sending sensitive financial information, such as complete payment card numbers, through ordinary email.
We will review your request and respond with the next steps.
11. Policy Updates
The Puppy Yard may update this Return & Refund Policy as our business practices or applicable legal requirements change.
The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
Changes will not override existing contractual rights or applicable legal protections.
We encourage customers to review the terms applicable to their reservation or purchase before completing payment.
